Prolotherapy services are performed by Internal Medicine Prolotherapy Specialist
Internal Medicine Doctor, Carrie Mousseau is the Medical Director of Root Cause Medical Clinic where she oversees the medical needs of all our patients. While Dr Mousseau is classically trained as a medical doctor, she delights in working with our team of doctors whose intentions are to diagnose and treat the root cause of a condition. She is particularly happy to wean patients off medications that they no longer require, after the root cause of their problems have been identified.
How would you describe Root Cause Medical Clinic’s Prolotherapy?
Prolotherapy, short for proliferative therapy, is also known as Reconstructive Therapy. It is a procedure that stimulates the body’s natural healing processes to strengthen joints weakened by trauma or over-use injuries.
Traditional approaches of surgery and anti-inflammatory drugs often fail to stabilize an injured joint, or relieve its weakness and pain permanently. Prolotherapy, with its unique ability to directly address the cause of the instability, can repair the weakened sites and produce new healthy tissue, thereby resulting in permanent stabilization of the joint.
Dr Mousseau specializes in Prolotherapy and her extensive training allows her to treat a variety of conditions successfully.
How does Prolotherapy work?
A mild solution is injected directly to the site of the torn or stretched ligament or tendon. This injection creates a stimulation of the body’s natural healing mechanisms to lay down new tissue on the weakened area. The response that is created encourages growth of new ligament or tendon fibers, resulting in a stronger, more stable structure. Additional treatments repeat this process, allowing a gradual buildup of new, healthy tissue to restore the original strength to the area.
What areas of the body can be treated?
This form of therapy can be used to treat any joint problem, including hip, knee, ankle, shoulder, elbow, wrist, jaw pain and carpal tunnel syndrome, to name a few. Prolotherapy is successful treating joints diagnosed with tendonitis, new or old sprains, weak or “loose” joints and unstable joints due to injury or repetitive stress.
How often will I need treatment?
The treatments should be administered every 1 to 2 weeks, as determined by your treating physician.
Who administers Prolotherapy?
Physicians who administer this form of therapy are trained by the American College of Osteopathic Pain Management and Sclerotherapy. Postgraduate training is a prerequisite before treating any patient with a medical orthopedic problem.
